Welcome to the Tire-Free Rivers website.
The goal of this site is to encourage local river recreationists everywhere to remove the thousands of old tires that litter our river bottoms. Here is an example from the North Rusagonis River near my home.
![]() Here's what I mean. I took this picture on the North Rusagonis Stream. I did not remove the tire, unfortunately. But I will get it next time. I promise. |
Some of you may live in jurisdictions where the government will hand over money for clean-ups, and you have the time and energy to organize and pull it off. That’s great.
Others may not be as fortunate, or may not have the time or opportunity, to mount or participate in a large-scale state-financed tire removal. But you still care, and you are willing to remove them from your local stream, even if it’s just one tire at a time.
If so, this site’s for you.
Send in a picture of the tire you have removed and sent for proper waste management to me at Tire-Free Rivers Central. Include your name (or fictitious handle), the date it was removed, and the name of the river and the state/province/country the river runs through.
I’ll post it here, and you can gain the recognition you deserve as a steward of your local river. I will not post your e-mail address, or give it to anyone else.
