Jay Grenham fished this tire out of the Merrimac River, New Hampshire, August 5, 2005, on his way to the Rendez-vous.
He took the trouble to rinse it off, place it in his canoe, and carry it to the state-managed takeout at Sewell's Mills, where he set it by the trash bins for proper disposal.
Jay was the very first American citizen to participate in the Tire-Free Rivers movement.
![]() Jay strokes downstream with his tire. There are untold thousands yet in the Merrimac River, but even this symbolic gesture is a meaningful contribution. |
Tire-Free Rivers is a non-profit volunteer crusade. Tire-Free Rivers is not affiliated with anything else. Nobody makes any money doing this.
